At the Bitcoin Asia conference in Hong Kong on August 28, Bilal Bin Saqib, Minister of State and Chairman of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA), disclosed that Pakistan has successfully built its virtual asset regulatory regime utilizing just 8% of its assigned budget. According to Saqib, this regulatory infrastructure was developed in under six months.
The announcement signals Pakistan’s intent to efficiently regulate the domestic crypto sector while managing resources conservatively. Details on the specific regulatory measures, enforcement strategies, and potential impacts on local and international crypto activities have not yet been fully outlined. The approach may reflect broader efforts by emerging markets to strike a balance between embracing innovation in digital assets and maintaining financial oversight.
Further updates are expected as the policy framework is put into practice and market participants respond to the new regulations.
