Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has disclosed its intention to withdraw from the Japanese market, with a process that starts immediately and concludes on December 31, 2026. According to an official announcement on August 3, the exchange will stop accepting new registrations from Japan and transition existing users through a phased wind-down period.

This move follows recent tightening of Japan's digital asset licensing regulations and persistent volatility in the Japanese yen. Bitget outlined that all open positions held by Japanese users will be forcibly closed by the specified year-end deadline. The company has not specified plans to re-enter the market, instead encouraging users to remain informed about regulatory developments.

This development highlights wider industry impacts resulting from evolving national crypto frameworks and macroeconomic pressures. Users and other exchanges are advised to closely monitor local compliance requirements and policy changes throughout the region.
