A worldwide study released by Logitech G suggests that nearly two-thirds (65%) of global respondents are in favor of creating more formalized educational routes and career pathways for aspiring esports professionals. The Logitech G PRO Series Survey, as reported by PlayToEarn News, found that over half (54%) of participants consider professional gaming to be a legitimate career option. The survey points to a notable generational divide: while 67% of Gen Z and 60% of Millennials recognize pro gaming as a valid profession, acceptance drops to 37% among Baby Boomers. Regional differences are also present, with only 20% of German Baby Boomers approving of professional gaming as a career, compared to 74% in China. Despite a growing perception of esports as an appealing path, professional gaming lags behind traditionally respected professions like healthcare, law, and education in terms of public esteem. Only 8% of respondents view professional esports careers as respectable—a figure comparable to musicians and actors. Encouragement to pursue professional gaming as a career also remains limited across age groups. Just 1% of Boomers and 3% of Gen X would recommend the profession to youth in their circles; even among Millennials, the figure is only 4%, in contrast to 15% who would encourage healthcare careers. The findings highlight several barriers facing the esports sector, including concerns about financial risk (42%), industry competitiveness (34%), and lack of familial or societal support (31%). Many respondents perceive a lack of job security, with 42% suggesting professional gaming is still regarded as a hobby rather than a career. Nevertheless, the survey indicates increasing recognition of the physical and mental challenges associated with pro gaming. Over a third (37%) of respondents support the inclusion of esports in events like the Olympic Games, with higher support (49%) among Gen Z. A substantial majority (84%) now view the profession as mentally demanding, reflecting evolving attitudes toward the skillset required for competitive gaming.
